He Awhi Tikanga is a team of expert knowledge keepers. This team ensure the integrity of te reo Māori me ona tikanga is upheld through Toi Māori Aotearoa. He Awhi Tikanga is central to the wellbeing of Toi Māori Aotearoa and the foremost forum for tikanga within the Māori creative arts sector.

He Awhi Tikanga assists members and resource people to assist in workshops and wananga on marae and works as an advisory team to Toi Māori Aotearoa art form teams and activities.
He Awhi Tikanga encourages artists to focus their creativity and draw strength from the marae. The practice of karanga, whaikorero, waiata and karakia are critical to the integrity of Toi Māori however all types of creative activity in and around the marae are worthy of development and promotion.
