Toi Māori Board of Trustees UPDATE

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Trevor Horowaewae Maxwell MNZN as Chairman of the Toi Māori Aotearoa Board.
Trevor is a founding member of Toi Māori Aotearoa (1996 - ) and served as Deputy Chair under the leadership of Waana Morrell Davis from 1998-2019.
As an artist, Trevor is widely recognised for his contribution to kapa haka and service as tutor and leader of Ngāti Rangiwewehi. He is a life-long member of Te Matatini and was acknowledged with the Iconic Keeper of Tradition Award at the 2019 Waiata Māori Music Awards.
Trevor also brings expert governance knowledge to the Toi Māori Aotearoa Board having served forty-two years in local government with the Rotorua City Council including the position of Deputy Mayor from 2002-2013. In 2004 Trevor was recognised as a Member of New Zealand Order of Merit for his contribution to Māori culture, art and local government. In 2018, Minister of Local Government, Nanaia Mahuta, presented Trevor with the Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to Local Government.
“I love working on behalf of Toi Māori Aotearoa and am honoured to have been asked to continue the work of Waana Davis. My passion is kapa haka and I view the work of Toi Māori Aotearoa in a similar light. Everyone has their part to play, from the composers to the kaitataki, kai tautoko, the judges and the audience. I am always thrilled when I see the kapa come together to perform as a whole and I bring this excitement to my work as Chairman of the Board.”

Professor Derek Lardelli has been appointed to the newly created position of Pūkonohi on the Toi Māori Aotearoa Board.
This role draws on Derek’s expertise in taonga tuku iho, taonga tuku rere, which will be called upon to support the work of Toi Māori Aotearoa. Te Pūkonohi supports the governance leadership of the Chairman and operates as the face of matters specific to Toi Māori in the public realm. https://www.youtube.com › watch |
