Timua Brennan (Te Arawa, Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngai Tahu) is one of New Zealand’s leading sopranos. She has travelled and performed in Italy, Hong Kong, Japan and all the major cities in New Zealand. Timua is a highly acclaimed Maori vocalist and performer.

Timua Brennan is of Te Arawa, Tuwharetoa and Ngai Tahu affiliations. She is the recipient of many scholarships, including a Te Waka Toi grant. Timua has attended an opera singers’ course offered by Patricia Hurly Opera Tours to Italy in May 2003, under the baton of the distinguished conductor Maestro Wyn Davis. She performed in Tuscany on a vineyard at La Villa Petrola to an exclusive audience of prominent Tuscan wine-makers and ex-patriots from Australia and New Zealand. It was a huge success and this led to invitations for Timua to return the following year for a two-week concert recital.

This extensive concert recital was held in Rome, Sicily and Tuscany, with a special performance for the New Zealand Ambassador, Julie McKenzie, and invited guests in Rome. Further concert recitals followed to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok and Tokyo.

Timua has performed in all the major cities and town halls throughout New Zealand, with the Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Chamber Music, New Zealand String Orchestra and Devonport Chamber Orchestra. She also adjudicates the New Zealand Aria Trust Vocal Competitions in Rotorua, the second largest singing competition in New Zealand.

In 2007, the highlight of her career was performing for HRH Prince Andrew in 2007 on Mokoia Island, Rotorua.

Timua is an accomplished operatic performer, having worked for the NBR Opera Company, Waikato Opera. She is also highly sought after in the corporate sector as a performing artist where her clients are a ‘who’s who’. For example, Pan Pacific Travel, Vero Business, Team One Motivators, TV One, Maori Television, Rotorua Events, National Institute of Real Estate, Rotorua Tourism Board, Opera in the Pa and Leadership in New Zealand.

She is also a highly-acclaimed Maori vocalist and performer where she displays her natural ability and talent for her cultural heritage.
