Patricia Grace
Patricia Grace was born in Wellington in 1937. She lives in Plimmerton on the ancestral land of Ngati Toa, Ngati Raukawa and Te Atiawa in close proximity to her home marae at Hongoeka Bay.

Patricia's 'Waiariki,' a collection of stories first published in 1975, won the Hubert Church Prose Award for best first book. He second novel, 'Potiki' (1986), won the fiction section of the New Zealand Book Awards as well as the Liberaturpreis from Frankfurt, Germany. She has written several other collections of stories and numerous novels, including 'Baby No-eyes' (1998) and 'Dogside Story' (2001). 'Dogside Story' won the 2001 Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize and was longlisted for the prestigious Booker Prize in August 2001. In New Zealand, 'Dogside Story' was shortlisted in the 2002 Montana New Zealand Book Awards.
Patricia has also written a number of children's books, including the award-winning 'The Kuia and the Spider' (1981). Her work has been translated into several languages.
In 2003, Patricia received one of five Nga Tohu a Kingi Ihaka/Sir Kingi Ihaka Awards from Te Waka Toi, the Maori Arts board of Creative New Zealand.
