Julie Kipa

With four Massey University qualifications, including a Masters in Maori Visual Arts, Julie is active as a painter, ta moko artist, multi-media installation artist, designer, and writer. She has taught and lectured in Maori art and has a broad interest in Maori arts development as a commentator, curator and consultant on Maori Arts. Julie is currently director of the Bachelor of Visual Culture programme at Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi in Whakatane.

Julie is a current member of Te Uhi A Mataora , Ta Moko Committee of Toi Maori Aotearoa.

From 6-14 March 2004, Julie was one of six ta moko artists working on Te Papa's Marae as a part of Ta Moko - A History on Skin presented in Wellington during the NZ International Arts Festival.

Toi Maori aspires to be the organisation of first choice for all matters relating to contemporary Maori art.
