Background
Peha - Ta Moko: A history on Skin is a comprehensive photographic study of work by New Zealand"s leading ta moko artists. This book is based on the sacred art of ta moko (symbolic body tattoo) with a focus on peha (mid to lower body tattoo).
The ta moko artwork that forms the basis of the book was created during the significant live exhibition "Ta Moko - A history on skin' held at Te Papa Tongarewa in March 2004 as a part of the New Zealand International Arts Festival.
With photography by Norman Heke, and major funding from Te Waka Toi, the Maori Arts Board of Creative New Zealand.
