Theme of the 2007 Hui
Maraenui marae separates the two realms of Tangaroa and Tanemahuta; outside the front gate lies Wharotai the beach front, behind the marae lies our maunga, Otukani, ascending are the native forests of Houpoto. It is appropriate that our theme relates to the topography of our marae. All taonga in the exhibition tent are related to these two realms, where you will find woven articles of nehera from both, such as the Taruke and Kiekie whariki.
Registration and Whakaeke - Friday 19 October
Early registration is available at the registration office under the shade of the pohutukawa tree from 1pm onwards. You will receive a conference pack, ID tag and other essential information. You are welcome to a cup of tea and sandwiches in the Kaauta Kai marquee outside the main entrance while you wait.
Korowai o Te Aroha
In respect to the many weavers who have joined with Hineteiwaiwa the goddess of raranga, or those unable to attend, we request that you wear your korowai in their memory at the whakaeke. You will be officially welcomed alongside our young Maori King Tuheitia and his entourage.
This is the first time Kingi Tuheitia has visited his Tairawhiti relatives of Te Whanau a Apanui, Ngaitai, Whakatohea, Ngati Porou and Turanganui tribes. Te Whanau a Apanui is the gateway into Te Tairawhiti Whaanui.

Parking is available adjacent to the Marae, wardens will direct you.
