Kahui Whiritoi – Celebration of Weaving Exponents
Te Puia in conjunction with Te Roopu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa (national Maori weaving body) will celebrate “Kahui Whiritoi” (Kuia and Kaumatua Weavers) who have each contributed over 50 years to the Art of Maori Weaving.
Kaumatua from around Aotearoa will gather in Rotorua to enjoy 2 days of celebration and remembrance of past and present. A forum will also be run to talk about the sustainability of Harakeke and natural resources important to the Art of Maori Weaving.
