The first major international touring exhibition to celebrate the changing art of Maori weaving.
Toi Maori: The Eternal Thread - Te Aho Mutunga Kore is a showcase of the very best in traditional and contemporary Maori weaving from Aotearoa New Zealand. This landmark exhibition premiered in Wellington at the NZ International Arts Festival in February 2004 before touring to the Rotorua Museum of Art and History, Rotorua and to the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Auckland.
During 2005 , 2006, the exhibition will tour to venues in the USA. Maori weavers will accompany the exhibition to give talks and demonstrations of weaving at each venue.
The exhibition contains over 90 works of traditional and contemporary weaving. The exhibition was developed by Porirua's Pataka Museum in partnership with Toi Maori Aotearoa - Maori Arts New Zealand and Te Roopu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa , Weavers New Zealand.
Toi Maori - The Eternal Thread is generously funded by Te Waka Toi, the Maori Arts Board of Creative New Zealand.
