Toi Maori: The Eternal Thread
An exhibition of weaving opens at Pataka Museum in February 2004 before touring to select venues in North America. Exhibition Dates: 27 Feb - 20 June 2004

Ranui Ngarimu, Chairperson of Te Roopu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, Toi Maori: The Eternal Thread. This exhibition will feature the best of Maori weaving and its influences on the ongoing development of Maori art.
The Eternal Thread will exhibit work from over 40 leading weavers. Confirmed artists whose work will be represented are:
teaue_davis, Christina Wirihana, Matekino Lawless, Ranui Ngarimu, Maureen Lander, Kelly King, Joy Wikitera, Aroha Mitchell, Kahu Te Kanawa, Ilona Joe, Elaine Bevan, Kohai Grace, Peggy Graham, Donna Campbell, Sonia Snowden, Kataraina Hetet, Lonnie Hutchinson, Edna Pahewa, Lisa Reihana, Judy Hohaia, Erenora Puketapu-Hetet, Diggeress Te Kanawa, Pip Devonshire, Moana Nepia, Tilly Matthews, and rangi_kipa.
The exhibition is the creation of Toi Maori Aotearoa working with Pataka Porirua Museum of Arts and Cultures. Pataka Museum will host The Eternal Thread which opens on 28 February 2004 at the launch of the New Zealand International Arts Festival.
Following its opening in Porirua, the exhibition will then tour to select venues in the United States of America and Canada. Weavers will travel from New Zealand to accompany the taonga as they journey around North America.
This exhibition is supported by our Minister of the Arts, Prime Minister Helen Clark, the Maori Queen, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, and the Chair of Toi Maori, Waana Davis.
