'On the Bus - Contemporary Maori Writers Tour' targets different regions of the country each year. 'On the Bus' was first initiated by Witi Ihimaera and Patricia Grace in 2001 for a tour of Taranaki. Since then the tour has visited Northland (2002), the lower South Island (2003), and Waiariki and Taupo (2004).
"Patricia Grace and Witi Ihimaera are our flag-wavers and our iconic figures" says Toi Maori Aotearoa General Manager Garry Nicholas. "They have marked the way for the talented and creative individuals that follow".
