Te Ara Puoro Volume 1

Te Ara Puoro Maori Musical Creativity is a journal devoted to the exploration of Maori musical creativity.

Te Ara Puoro Volume 1

Te Ara Puoro Maori Musical Creativity

Published by Toi Maori Aotearoa, Te Ara Puoro is a showcase and a celebration of Maori music, Maori involvement in music and Maori musical endeavour generally. Te Ara Puoro Volume 1 contains essays and articles which are illustrated by music that appears on accompanying CD.

The Spectrum of Maori Musical Creativity

The journal seeks to explore and highlight what is termed the "Te Ara Puoro Spectrum of Maori Musical Creativity." At one end of the spectrum are traditional Maori music forms such as moteatea and taonga puoro. At the other end of the spectrum are those non-Maori music forms which Maori have become involved with and, in some cases, have experienced great success. Opera is an example.

Te Ara Puoro Volume 1

Te Ara Puoro Volume 1 was published in 2000. It contains essays by Timoti Karetu, Tiahuia Grey, Te Puoho Katene and Gordon Spittle. Topics include moteatea, the music of Ngati Poneke, Dovey Katene-Horvath, Ruru Karaitiana and Tuini Ngawai. A CD of music examples is included.
