Journal and CD-Rom

Maori Music Committee Puatatangi, have produced a publication of addresses from the Hui Moteatea/Traditional Music Conference held at the University of Waikato in Hamilton in 1999.

Puatatangi chair and conference convenor Hirini Melbourne had recently completed a CD-Rom to accompany the booklet titled 'Te Ara Puoro Volume 2.' It was a great loss to Puatatangi's Archiving of Maori Music Programme when he passed away earlier this year.

The 1999 conference was the first in a series of gatherings of traditional experts in Waiata Maori. The Hui Moteatea was followed by 'Te Haka A Tanerore National Conference on Haka' held at Victoria University of Wellington in 2001, which will appear as Volume 3.

Maori artists remembered Hirini in launching the journal at the Toi Maori Festival in Christchurch on 23 January 2003. Dr Huirangi Waikerepuru was guest speaker for the launch and recalled the enjoyment of hearing presenters giving their tribal perspectives on traditional musical form.

Te Ara Puoro Volume 2 contains addresses by Dr Waikerepuru, Dr Timoti Karetu, Dr Katarina Heikoko Mataira, Rua Anderson, Pakake Winiata and Ngahuia Dixon. An accompanying CD-Rom contains some of these same addresses as well as images of the welcome to the conference. All contents are in Te Reo Maori.

Volumes 1 and 2 are available on order from Toi Maori Aotearoa. Please Contact Us us for further information.

Toi Maori aspires to be the organisation of first choice for all matters relating to contemporary Maori art.
