If you would like to have a look at some photos taken at this years International Festival of Canoes held in Maui go to: http://www.alarmist.fotki.com/canoes/ All photos on this site were taken by Tom Brayton and we thank him for directing us to this sight. See our guys at work both on the canoe and pou.

Obituary

William John (Darkie) King aged 36 years passed away 2 June 2007 - he was the victim of a hit-and-run. Darkie had worked for us off and on for several years and had also been a crew member on Te Aurere. Rest in peace Darkie.

Congratulations

Well done Emirates Team New Zealand winning the Louis Vuitton cup by beating Luna Rossa: Italy five - nil and thus earning the right to challenge Alinghi Switzerland for the America’s Cup.

New Waka Hourua

Work is progressing on the new Waka Hourua. James has been beavering away steadily getting it ready to be lashed together. The hulls have their spreaders in and the Aku are just about all ready. On 21 and 22 July, we will be holding a working bee to get started lashing the two hulls together. If you would like to be a part of this please contact me.

Exceptional Eating Place

Now and again we come across somewhere exceptional that we think is worth mentioning. From time to time we get asked about good places to eat round here. Gina and I came across a place right in the middle of Coopers Beach on State Highway 10. It’s called Coopers Café. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday except Monday. The food is exceptional and the service great. They are also fully licensed to sell wines and spirits. If you are up this way and looking for somewhere to eat or maybe just to have a good cup of coffee, we can certainly recommend this place. For reservations phone (09) 406 0860 or check out their web site http://www.cooperscafe.co.nz

Te Aurere Clothing

Don’t forget that we still have clothing for sale.

  • Tee shirts for men, women and children, many different sizes and colours all with the Te Aurere logo printed on the front and back. Tee shirts are all $25.00.
  • We also have caps in black or white with the Te Aurere logo embroidered on the front and our web site address embroidered on the back. Caps are $20.00 and beanies $15.00. Beanies in black only and if your thatch has started to thin like mine then these are the things for this colder weather. The Te Aurere logo is embroidered on the front.
  • We still have some black, zip up vests for $45.00. These have the logo embroidered on the front and come in many sizes.

We will accept either cash or cheques but cannot take credit cards. Postage and packing extra.

So, that’s it again for another month. Don’t forget the Coopers Café, it’s brilliant!

Ka kite ano,
Mike Harding
