Joe Harawira, celebrated storyteller in New York
For thousands of years, Pacific Island peoples have lived together with the ocean, land, sky, and stars. Susana Lei’ataua, artist-in-residence at New York University, and celebrated orator and storytelling specialist Joe Harawira from Aotearoa/New Zealand weave together traditional and contemporary performance in telling the creation stories of Rangi the Sky Father; Papa the Earth Mother; Tangaroa of the Ocean, and many more. 'Strange Resting Places' in London

Aho - garment range from Ngai Tahu
Ngai Tahu artist Ross Hemera has created the designs for the new Aho range of shawls - that use an innovative natural fabric made from wool and possum fibre. His designs incorporate selected iconic images from rock art: the tiki (human figure), the kuri (dog) and the mythological manu (bird man).

Toirau: 100 Years of Art
The exhibition Toirau: 100 Years of Art marks the centenary of Gisborne Boys High School and includes works by past art teachers and students, many of whom have shown their work nationally and internationally. Incldues works by Derek Lardelli. The show is installed at Toihoukura, Tairawhiti Polytechnic's School of Maori Art and is open until April 27.

Mo te atua, mo te kuini me te whenua: For God, Queen and for Country. An exhibition to pay homage to those that fought for our country in World War 1 and World War 2. Opens 6pm Thursday 23 April, until 29 May 2009 at Iwi Art, 19 Tory Street, Wellington. Exhibiting artists are Desna Whaanga-Schollum, Rona Ngahuia Osborne and Suzanne Tamaki.
New Matariki website
The New Zealand Maori Tourism Council (NZMTC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Matariki events portal www.matarikievents.com. The website will be a "one stop shop" for information on Matariki and will contain listings of Matariki events happening all over New Zealand, along with stories, links, training resources and other related opportunities.
Miromoda Maori fashion design awards: call for entries
Entries are urgently invited for the Miromoda Maori fashion design awards before April 30 deadline. The inaugural Miromoda awards event will be held on 27 June at Wellington's Massey University and finalists will be showcased at Air New Zealand Fashion Week in September 2009. Award 1 - Established Designer Award; Award 2 - Mittelmoda Design Award; Award 3 - Promotional T-shirt Design Award; Award 4 - Haute Couture Design Award (open to established and emerging Maori designers).
Plastic Maori - A Tradition of Innovation
What happens when man-made products replace the customary organic materials used in Māori art? Calling all Oral Historians
Applications are being called for this year’s awards in oral history. Projects on the history of Maori or Pacific Island people in New Zealand and those projects that have community support are especially welcome.
Call for submissions - Matariki exhibition

We would like predominantly sculptural work that can be shown outside on the night of the opening as well as installations, paintings, textiles etc to complement the main sculptural works. Willis Central Temporary Art Project
The Willis Central building is about to be demolished and rebuilt and needs a temporary public artwork for the worksite boarding. Wellington City and The Wellington Company will cover the costs of materials, the resource consent and the artist’s fee. The artwork will be in place for around 18 months. Interested?
