Honouring Theatre Festival - Auckland

A forum for new Maori voices and theatre in Auckland presented by Playmarket. Come and celebrate the rising of the stars during Matariki by hearing new Maori voices and the voices of those who have trailblazed the way and continue to shine the light for Maori theatre. Rising Stars - Nga Whetu Whitinga
Coinciding with Matariki, the exhibition at Wellington's Solander Gallery showcases recent work by seven female artists from Toi Whakataa, the Maori Printers Collective, Alexis Neal, Gabrielle Belz, Sam Farquhar, Ruth Green Cole, Cerisse Palalagi, Natalie Couch and Vanessa Edwards. Opens Saturday June 28, exhibition runs until Saturday 12 July.

Into the light at Artstation
On show from 25 June to 12 July and curated by artist Charlotte Graham, the group exhibition features artists Natalie Couch and daughter, Mumu Te Awha Couch, aged five, Wi Te Tau Pirika Taepa.
Turuki Turuki! Paneke Paneke! When Maori Art Became Contemporary
Auckland Art Gallery pays tribute to a generation of senior Maori artists who exhibited 50 years ago in the first exhibition of contemporary Maori art in Auckland, in June 1958. The exhibition presents the work of pioneering artists Ralph Hotere, Arnold Manaaki Wilson, Muru Walters, Katerina Mataira and the late Selwyn Wilson.

Bloodlines - exhibition and demonstrations of Maori art

Derek Lardelli honoured with ONZM
In this year's Queen's Birthday honours, Derek Arana Te Ahi Lardelli was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to Maori arts, "particularly ta moko (Maori tattoo)". It joins the artist's many other awards, among them his selection as the inaugural Artist in Residence at Gallipoli, Turkey (2006) and, in 2004, his appointment as an Arts Foundation of New Zealand laureate.
