Morehu Flutey-Henare

Morehu Flutey-Henare

Ngai Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Mahanga, Ngā Puhi

Morehu Flutey-Henare, who currently lives in Otautahi, Te Waipounamu, is a recognised Ngai Tahu Senior Weaver. Morehu is also a committee member of Te Roopu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa

Morehu has retained her strong tribal whakapapa links and incorporates both traditional and contemporary raranga, taaniko, kakahu and tukutuku methodologies into her art works and practice.

More recently, her work has used natural fibres sourced from mountains, tussock and coastal areas.

A keen interest in the variety and textures afforded through a diverse plant selection in te Wahipounamu, sets Morehu’s work apart from those working with more easily sourced materials.

Kakahu and kete items include native materials such as; poa, neinei, kiekie, tikumu, pingao, toi and harakeke.
