Born and raised 20 minutes south of Kaikohe in the little valley of Awarua, I have been creating art for 20 years. A creative journey which began with scribbles and sketches in my maths book at Kaikohe Intermediate, to a degree in Art and Design, solo and group exhibitions, and work in homes and businesses throughout Aotearoa and the world.
I create my art in a style that combines the rich history and mana of traditional Maori Art, and the sleek stylistic attributes of contemporary painting and design.
Although my practice encompasses many art-forms and techniques, painting will always be my first love and passion. I feel my greatest artistic expression comes through painting. These works deal with my culture, the modern world, the environment and social issues, posing questions about them and examining the push and pull between these ideologies.
I am presently working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, with my current projects; including illustrating children's books and web design for local companies and organizations. I have plans to exhibit my work in Northland later this year.
