Weaving Fashion From The Past Into The Future

25 October 2003 is a new beginning for the profile of Wearable Maori Heritage.

In association with the biennial Te Roopu Raranga Whatu O Aotearoa , Weavers National Hui, an event showcasing garments designed by Maori utilizing the skills and expertise of weaving will be hosted in Palmerston North. This exciting event will encompass garments and cultural performance.

Categories for the show include Past, Present and Future designed garments.

Palmerston North, in Manawatu will host the Inaugural Wearable Maori Heritage Event, on Saturday 25 October (Labour Weekend) 2003 in the Palmerston North Convention Centre, Main Street West, Palmerston North.

There are three design categories:

Past: Traditional techniques, fibres and designs including the use of traditional dyes.
Present: Traditional techniques applied to contemporary materials and designs.
Future: Contemporary materials, designs and techniques with at least half of the garment.

There are six awards being presented at the Wearable Maori Heritage Event.

"There are over 40 entries received to date, which are of a high calibre from recognized national, regional and local Maori designers with a good geographical spread over New Zealand," says Waana Davis, Media Spokesperson.

Gold seats are $30.00 or 4 for $100.00. Silver seats are $25.00.
