Nga Waka Federation is hosting a weekend training course for ceremonial waka leaders, at the Bay of Islands College Marae, from Friday 18th through to Sunday 20th July. The course will commence on Saturday morning and conclude Sunday morning with a practical examination.

Nga Waka encourages all leaders to participate. This event is also a practical way of assessing the quality and relevance of the programme for Kaupapa Waka. The course will be facilitated by representatives of the NZ Coastguard.

The Day Skipper Certificate Course is separated into 5 units:
• The Vessel (Waka)
• Navigation
• Rules & Regulations
• Emergencies
• Knots

Spaces for the course are limited to 40 people and registrations are due in by 12pm, Friday 11 July 2003.
