He Awhi Tikanga National Hui is an annual gathering facilitated by He Awhi Tikanga Artform Committee of Toi Maori Aotearoa. Providing an atmosphere and forum for discussion, this gathering is an opportunity for Maori artform practitioners and cultural academics versed in the arts and tikanga Maori to wananga together.

The programme this year will comprise of open forum discussion about various topical issues including the role of men and women on the marae and that our future is our past. Leading art practitioners from amongst Toi Maori Aotearoa's networks will present demonstrations and exhibitions of their artforms including:

Raranga (weaving) Edna Pahewa
Ta Moko (body art) Patrick Takoko
Hauora (health in massage) Erena Turori
Taonga Puoro (traditional Maori music) Bernard Makoare
Korero Purakau (storytelling) Joe Harawira

This is a free event which offers participants the opportunity to participate in an informative and enriching experience.

The Hui will be held at Ruaihona Marae - Tuteao Marae, Te Teko in the Bay of Plenty.
