Te Tau Ranga - The Coming Together, The Gathering

Te Tau Ranga, a vibrant exhibition of contemporary Maori art, will bring exciting Maori art forms of international standard to Tauranga city. The exhibition will be assembled by Colleen Waata Urlich and Toi Maori Aotearoa, fresh from a major exhibition in San Francisco.

Viewers will be able to see painting, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media and adornment, featuring internationally known ceramic artist Manos Nathan and painter Darcy Nicholas, amongst many others. Specially invited local artists will include sculptor Rex Homan, Tawhai Rickard and Tania Lewis-Rickard, whose waharoa (gateway) will feature at the entrance of Baycourt's Exhibition Hall. Work will be for sale.

Ta Moko - A history on skin

New Zealand's finest ta moko (tattoo) artists will also feature in the Exhibition Hall. Throughout each day, watch the artists at work and talk with them about this living, breathing and dynamic art form, worn as a symbol of identity and origin.

Flags of the Festival

Down on the Strand by the Pacific Crystal Palace, four huge colourful flags will be catching the wind. Designed by leading artists Manos Nathan, Gabrielle Belz, June Grant and Sandy Adsett, the flags will capture the spirit of the festival.
