Pao! Pao! Pao! 2003 Celebration of Maori and Pacific Music and Dance.

Following on from the huge success of the inaugural Pao! Pao! Pao! Held in February 2002, Toi Maori Aotearoa and Puatatangi present Pao! Pao! Pao! 2003.

Queen's Birthday Weekend, Saturday May 31st and Sunday June 1st 2003, University of Waikato's WEL Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts.

"The Pao! Pao! Pao! concept is to bring together a dynamic blend of Maori and Pacific music and dance" said Puatatangi Chairperson Te Rita Papesch. "The performances promise to be an explosion of colour, sound and movement" said Te Rita.

"Aside from the event content it is also a time to celebrate and pay tribute to the late Dr. Hirini Melbourne, the previous Chair of Puatatangi". "Pao, Pao, Pao, was an example of his inspiration and vision" said Toi Maori Aotearoa General Manager Garry Nicholas.

Event Co-ordinators , Kanohi Kitea are expecting the 500 Saturday Showcase tickets to be sold out rather quickly. "The Saturday showcase features a programme stacked with amazing entertainers. Eighteen bands for six hours of non-stop music and dance",said Tai Huata, the Artistic Director. The showcase will feature entertainers such as: Cornerstone Roots (Raglan), Adam Whauwhau (Hamilton), MC Mana and DJ Sticky Fingers (Christchurch) No Artificial Flavours (Manukau), Ruia (Auckland), WVVLC (Taupo), and Whirimako Black (Auckland).

Dance groups include Atamira (Auckland), Mika HAKA and Torotoro (Auckland) and Kahurangi NZ Maori Dance Theatre (Hastings).

Sunday's programme includes Panel Sessions and Workshops 9am to 4.30pm. Representatives from APRA, NZ Music Industry Commission, Creative NZ and others. In the afternoon, breakout workshops will feature invited musicians and dancers.
