Maori Writers Festival 2005

The Maori Literature Trust in partnership with the New Zealand Book Council and Toi Maori Aotearoa proudly present the 2005 Maori Writers Festival. This is the fifth year the festival has run and we are once again proud to celebrate the diversity of Maori writing in different genres , from novels to screenplays to songs.

The diversity is testament to Maori writers making their unique mark on creative industries. This year we have seen James George as a finalist in the Tasmania Pacific Fiction Prize, Kelly Ana Morey as a finalist in the Kiriyama Prize, and Patricia Grace named both a New Zealand icon and winner of the Deutz Medal for Fiction and Poetry at the Montana Book Awards. The Maori Writers Festival provides an opportunity to sample what's happening in Maori writing today.

Venues are all over Wellington, dates are from Wednesday 28 September to Saturday 1 October 2005. Full programme details are available from Huia's website http://www.huia.co.nz.

People can contact Katrina Smit Katrina@huia.co.nz or Renee Mark renee@huia.co.nz or phone 04 473 9272
